Tesla - It’s Not Just A Car Company

Welcome To The Godspeed Weekly

Tesla - It’s Not Just A Car Company

This week, Elon Musk shared new clips of Tesla’s Optimus robot dancing, showcasing major improvements in balance and mobility. The videos went viral instantly.

In response, Tesla’s official account joked, “We’re a car company right,” hinting at broader ambitions beyond EVs.

This isn’t pure speculation - Optimus appears boldly on Tesla’s Investor Relations page.

$TSLA has yet to emerge from its 4-year base. The deployment of its Optimus robot may be the catalyst for an all-time high. Here’s the monster 3M chart.

Waymo Scouts Boston

Waymo is charting new territory in Boston, Massachusetts.

Starting May 19, the company will deploy a fleet of autonomous EVs, each operated by trained safety drivers, to navigate and map the city's streets.

This initiative is the first step toward evaluating the feasibility of a fully autonomous robotaxi service in the Greater Boston area. Boston’s complex roadways, unpredictable weather, and dense pedestrian traffic present new challenges for autonomous driving technologies.

Waymo will collect comprehensive data across the following neighborhoods - Mission Hill, East Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville, as well as major highways like I-90 and I-93.

The information collected will be used to deploy Waymo’s autonomous systems and ensure they can safely and effectively navigate Boston’s urban environment.

The company has not provided an official launch date, but it’s reasonable to expect a fully operational robotaxi network sometime in late-2026 // early-2027.

OpenAI Seeks To Assist The UAE’s AI Ambitions

OpenAI is reportedly partnering with the United Arab Emirates to develop a 5-gigawatt data center in Abu Dhabi — making it one of the largest AI facilities on Earth. While OpenAI hasn’t officially confirmed its involvement, a formal announcement is expected soon.

The scale of the reported data center is staggering. Most data centers operate under 300 megawatts. This project would be more than 15x larger.

Geopolitically, the partnership comes as the US and UAE strengthen their tech ties. Building in Abu Dhabi may offer OpenAI more control, regulatory freedom, and access to sovereign capital.

However, powering and cooling a 5-gigawatt data center in the desert raises questions. The UAE will likely lean into its nuclear and solar efforts alongside advanced desalination and cooling systems.

OpenAI’s ambitions are no longer limited to LLMs. The company seeks to build infrastructure to support the ever-present paradigm shift.

Uber Unveils A “Fix-Route Shuttle Service”

Uber unveiled “Route Share,” a fixed-route shuttle serving major cities - New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, and Baltimore.

Each shuttle offers seats for up to three passengers traveling in the same direction at half the cost of an UberX.

Rides depart every 20 minutes during midweek rush hours - mirroring public transit alternatives - ie, the city bus.

A team of Purdue University undergrads developed “Purdubik’s Cube,” a robot that shattered the world record for solving a Rubik’s Cube.

The robot completed the puzzle in a blistering 0.103 seconds, nearly 3x faster than the previous record set by Mitsubishi Electric in 2024.

To put this achievement into perspective, the robot’s solve time is faster than the time it takes for the average human to blink.

This Flying Car Could Be Yours In 2026

Klein Vision’s AirCar, a transforming car to flying car aircraft, is slated for certification later this year, with customer deliveries set to begin in early 2026.

The Slovakia-based company has completed more than 500 test flights of its 4th-generation prototype and recently unveiled its 5th-generation model.

The AirCar features retractable wings and an extending tail, allowing it to effortlessly switch between driving and flying modes. The automated transformation process takes approximately 80 seconds. The AirCar has a cruising speed of 120 mph and a range of 620 miles. It requires a runway of roughly 1,000 feet for takeoff.

The automobile // aircraft is expected to be priced between $800,000 and $1M. The AirCar boasts a high price, but this is simply the cost of innovation.
